OBTAIN
TELEPHONE ADVICE?
You may phone in to
request a telephone call from a doctor or nurse. Please consider if this might
be more appropriate for your problem as it avoids using up appointments unnecessarily
and you having to attend the surgery. Calls are usually made on completetion of surgeries.
HOW
DO I...
MAKE
AN APPOINTMENT?
-
Telephoning 01329 664231 - the main switchboard has four incoming lines, so if you get a ringing tone, please wait for the telephonist to answer.
-
By calling in person at the surgery.
- By on-line booking - details and a password are available from reception.
When requesting an appointment, please consider whether your problem could be referred to an appropriately trained nurse. Also, please bear in mind that we have more doctors working in the mornings than in the afternoons.
We have three types of appointment available:
Cancellations
Appointments are in high demand and currently an average of 35 appointments each week are wasted when patients fail to turn up. If you cannot attend your appointment or no longer require it, please inform us as soon as possible as this will allow someone else to be seen by the doctor or nurse.
If you are forgetful we will be happy to text you the day before your appointment and remind you of your appointment time. (We will need your mobile number, of course.)
Repeated failure to attend booked appointments will result in removal from the practice list and registration elsewhere.
Emergencies
If you are confronted by a serious problem such as severe chest pain or severe
bleeding, call an ambulance (telephone: 999) before calling the surgery and informing
the doctor.
Chaperones
If you would like a chaperone present during a consultation, please request one when you make the initial appointment or during the consultation.
HOW DO I...
OBTAIN A HOME VISIT?
House calls are for seriously ill and housebound patients only. Please make every
effort to attend the surgery as you will be seen earlier in the day, with the
full benefit of the surgery's clinical and computer back up. In the time
it takes to do a home visit, the doctor can see three patients at the surgery.
If you do need a home visit try to call before 10.00am so that your own doctor
can decide whether a visit is the best way of dealing with the problem, and prioritise
the calls. Late calls may be dealt with by the duty doctor who may not know you
so well.
HOW
DO I...
OBTAIN
TEST RESULTS?
There is no requirement for you to book an appointment to obtain the results of an investigation unless your doctor has specifically requested that you do so. After allowing time for the result to be returned to the practice, you should telephone 01329 664231 after 2.00pm, to obtain the result. The doctor may decide to telephone you to discuss the result when it arrives or we will telephone to arrange an appointment for you to see the GP.
HOW DO I...
OBTAIN REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS?
Repeat prescriptions will be issued at the doctor’s discretion and are normally for patients on long-term treatment. Requests for prescriptions can be made using the computer-generated request slip, in writing ( sent either by post, faxed to 01329 664958, or emailed to hamp-pct.stubbingtonscripts@nhs.net ). We cannot accept requests over the telephone, because it is too easy for mistakes to be made.
You must give two full working days’ notice (excluding weekends and bank holidays) before collecting your prescription from the surgery. Alternatively, you may send your request with a stamped addressed envelope to the surgery for return by post.
It is also possible for you to arrange with the local pharmacy for them to collect your prescription from the surgery on your behalf. Contact your pharmacy to request this free service.
Some local pharmacies also provide a free delivery service direct to your home. Ask your local pharmacy if they provide this service.
Prescriptions will not be issued more than 10 days in advance, unless there are mitigating circumstances eg holiday, bank holidays or the Christmas and New Year period.
